It resisted diseases that other varieties succumbed to and was the base for the most popular and appreciated wine: the queen of varieties. Its cultivation and winemaking challenges led it to yield to the momentum of Tempranillo.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMany Garnacha vineyards were uprooted, losing over 50% of their cultivated area in just a few years. Something similar happened with white Garnacha. If the former was uprooted, the latter barely survived the dominance of Viura, being one of the white varieties in Rioja with the smallest cultivated area, at 247 hectares in 2022.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 2016, after many years of work, Viñedos La Maldita rescued it from oblivion to bring it back into the spotlight with its first white wine.
