With aromas of strawberries, raspberries, herbs, and toast.
A wonderful Garnacha Tinta from Swartland (South Africa) made with a selection of Grenache Noir from five different vineyards. It is David & Nadia's personal choice for red wines, and they have shown that delicious, subtle, fresh, delicate Garnachas can be made in South Africa, and more specifically in Swartland; full-bodied but with fruit, firm tannins, and a delicate perfume of pomegranate and sour cherry. It received 94 points from John Platter (the guide considered the bible of wines in South Africa). The grapes come from the Paardeberg area, planted in the early 2000s. From another plot, planted more recently on the northeast side of Langkloof Valley, overlooking Aprilskloof. The third, planted in 2016 on schist soils in Kasteelberg. From a fourth vineyard on terraces high up on the mountain and finally, the Grenache Noir from a vineyard in northern Malmesbury from 2012. They made up to twelve different harvests to obtain the desired grape ripeness. All wines have been fermented in concrete and with 60% whole grapes, with minimal and soft extractions. And finally, aged in concrete and old French oak barrels. An arduous, manual, delicate work until finding the perfect blend that makes this South African Garnacha a true craving.
