Winery of the Month | Pepe Rodríguez de Vera

This month at BACO, we celebrate Pepe Rodríguez de Vera as our Winery of the Month. His project began in his garage, but with deep roots: seven generations of winemakers in Chinchilla (Albacete). La Rioja más allá del Tempranillo 🍇

La Rioja Beyond Tempranillo 🍇

When we talk about La Rioja, Tempranillo usually takes all the glory, but the region hides a treasure trove of lesser-known native varieties that deserve to be discovered. From the intense and spicy Graciano, to Maturana Tinta, a grape rescued from oblivion that adds structure and personality. Also Mazuelo, key in coupages to provide freshness, or Tempranillo Blanco, a fascinating mutation that has given rise to full-bodied, acidic whites. Garnacha, which has re-emerged strongly, and Viura, the soul of Rioja whites. Exploring these varieties is a way to discover new nuances of La Rioja and go beyond the conventional at BACO.
